Hello, I’m Michelle.

Writer, reflective practitioner, and creator of The Pause.

The Pause didn’t begin as a philosophy.
It began at a point where something in my life stopped working.

From the outside, everything appeared as though it was holding together.
But underneath, I was stretched across the many roles I was carrying -
work, home, motherhood, and the invisible load that sits between it all.

Over time, that load built quietly.

Until I reached a point where I couldn’t keep moving in the same way.
Where something in me said:
this isn’t sustainable anymore.

I write about burnout, identity, and the quiet process of rebuilding a life that feels more aligned with who we truly are.

This work comes from lived experience - and continues to evolve as I do.

The Origin of The Pause

The Pause began during a period where my life was forced to slow down in ways I had not planned or anticipated.

What initially felt like disruption gradually became something else -
a period of listening, reflection, and change.

I began noticing things I hadn’t previously paid attention to:

- the signals of my nervous system
- the pace at which I had been living
- the expectations I had placed upon myself

Writing became a way of making sense of this experience.

Over time, these reflections evolved into what I now call The Pause.

The Work Itself

This space is where I share those reflections as they continue to unfold.

I write from lived experience - not from a place of having resolved these questions, but from being in relationship with them.

You’ll find reflections on:

• Burnout and recovery
• Nervous system awareness
• Identity and self-reconstruction
• Redefining work, worth, and success
• Learning to live differently, over time

This work has gradually taken shape as The Pause - an evolving way of understanding how we live, what we carry, and what it means to return to ourselves.

Background

My professional background sits within structured organisational environments where responsibility, productivity, and complex projects are part of everyday life.

Working within these systems gave me a close view of how modern work can shape identity — how achievement, reliability, and responsibility can become central to how we measure our value.

But my life was never defined by work alone.

Alongside my professional role, I was also navigating the many dimensions of family life - motherhood, household management, and the emotional and cognitive load that sits quietly alongside work and caregiving.

Over time, I began to see how these roles intersected and accumulated.

This broader context shaped my experience of burnout - not as something contained to work, but as something that lives across the whole of life.

Through writing and reflection, these observations gradually developed into what I now describe as The Pause - an evolving body of work exploring burnout, identity, and the possibility of living differently.

Creative Practice

Alongside writing, I also work with meditative line-based artwork.

Both practices share a similar rhythm — quiet attention, repetition, and a return to what feels essential.

In many ways, drawing and writing serve a similar purpose: creating space to notice, reflect, and allow insight to emerge slowly.

An Invitation to Explore
